Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya and Siaya Governor James Orengo during the unveiling of Sifuna's party on October 4, 2026 / ENOS TECHESeveral leaders have rallied behind Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as he unveiled his new political party, The Equitable Party, on Sunday.
The leaders, who attended the launch, urged Sifuna to build the party into a national outfit and bring together Kenyans from across the country.
MP Jack Wamboka described Sifuna's political journey as one centred on Kenyans, saying his candidature was bigger than an individual.
“My brother Edwin Sifuna, I am proud of you because you are Kenyan, and your candidature today is not about you but about Kenyans,” Wamboka said.
Wamboka urged Sifuna to give the party a national outlook, saying leaders would step back to allow the outfit to bring together people from different communities.
“We want all the tribes to be represented here before we meet other opposition leaders,” he said.
Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga also backed Sifuna, thanking young Kenyans on social media whom he credited with supporting the senator's political journey.
“I want to thank all the youths on social media who have fought for Sifuna until he has gotten his party,” Kalasinga said.
He called for the new party to have a national image and representation from different communities.
“If we have 27 national parties, we should have 27 tribes representing the parties that we have here,” he said, adding that Sifuna was “equal to the task” of leading the party.
Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, however, cautioned Sifuna that building a successful political movement would require him to work with other opposition leaders.
“Edwin Sifuna, do not get excited. The heartbeat has now started,” Khalwale said.
He cited former Siaya Governor James Orengo, Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP leader Martha Karua and former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa as leaders whose support Sifuna would need.
“You are going to need to stand on the shoulders of James Orengo. You will need to humble yourself and stand on the shoulders of Kalonzo Musyoka. On the shoulders of Martha Karua. On the shoulders of your elder brother, Eugene Wamalwa,” Khalwale said.
He urged Sifuna to persuade and seek the support of other leaders rather than attempt to force them into his political camp.
Digital strategist Pauline Njoroge offered a more direct endorsement, describing Sifuna as “a force of nature” and predicting that he would become Kenya's sixth President.
“Edwin Sifuna will be the sixth President of the Republic of Kenya. Any effort to frustrate that or stop him is going to fail,” Njoroge said.
Saboti MP Caleb Amisi also congratulated Sifuna on the launch, describing it as another milestone in Kenya's multiparty politics.
Amisi said the introduction of new political parties was part of the freedom secured through the country's transition to multiparty democracy.
“Congratulations are in order for yet another party of Linda Mwananchi movement,” Amisi said.
“Well done, Edwin Sifuna, for this milestone. PM party celebrates with you and together with all progressive voices. Ruto shall go home inshallah! Kenya needs a renaissance.”
Nairobi Senator and Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) leader Sifuna has been named the preferred presidential candidate of The Equitable Party (TEP) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna has been unveiled as the party's political vehicle during an event in Nairobi on Sunday, October 4, as he moves to consolidate his presidential bid.
TEP party leader Gilbert Marava said the party had decided to restructure its leadership and make room for Sifuna and his supporters.
“On our end, we have decided to restructure, and in the process, those who registered will stay, and we will bring in our brothers,” Marava said.
