A new poll by the Politrack Research Team has placed President William Ruto ahead of his rivals in presidential preference, with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna emerging as the second most preferred candidate.

The survey, conducted between September 15 and 25, 2026, asked respondents which presidential candidate they would vote for at the time.

Ruto received 45.1 per cent of the responses, followed by Sifuna with 19.6 per cent and Kalonzo at 10.3 per cent.

Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i polled 7.2 per cent, while former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua garnered 6.0 per cent.

The poll placed 8.4 per cent of respondents as undecided, making them the largest group outside the candidates who expressed a preference.

Other presidential hopefuls recorded significantly smaller shares. Prof George Wajackoyah received 1.1 per cent, while PLP leader Martha Karua and former Chief Justice David Maraga each recorded 0.8 per cent.

Siaya Governor James Orengo received 0.4 per cent, businessman Jimmy Wanjigi polled 0.3 per cent, while the remaining respondents were accounted for by the survey's reported categories.

The Politrack survey targeted potential voters across the country. Data was collected using a text-based technology platform, through which sampled users were invited to participate and answer prompted questions at their convenience.

A total of 20,419 respondents participated in the survey. Politrack reported a 95 per cent confidence level and a margin of error of +/-3 percentage points.

The findings come as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election, with presidential hopefuls stepping up mobilisation and political parties and movements holding consultations over possible alliances.

Ruto has increasingly taken his development agenda on the road, criss-crossing the country to launch, commission and inspect government projects as he seeks to build support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In recent weeks, he has toured regions including Nyanza, the South Rift and the Coast, inspecting roads, water and sanitation projects, markets, affordable housing developments, health and education facilities, energy projects and other infrastructure.

Sifuna on the other hand has in recent months intensified his political activities through the Linda Mwananchi movement and has positioned himself as a potential presidential contender.

His showing in the Politrack survey puts him ahead of several established presidential hopefuls, including Kalonzo, Matiang’i and Gachagua.

Gachagua has also been conducting political mobilisation through his Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), including an extended tour of the United States where he has been engaging Kenyans in the diaspora.

Kalonzo has meanwhile continued consultations with opposition leaders as political formations explore possible arrangements ahead of the election.
