The Raila Amolo Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya
Construction of the Raila Amolo Odinga Mausoleum at Kang’o ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya, is more than 95 per cent complete, with the project entering its final phase ahead of its planned unveiling next week.
The Ministry of Defence took over the implementation of the project in July 2026, with significant progress recorded in just over two months.
Principal Secretary for Defence Patrick Mariru on Wednesday led a team from the ministry in inspecting the mausoleum to assess the progress of works and its readiness ahead of the unveiling.
He was accompanied by a team from the National Museums of Kenya (NMK), led by Director General Prof Mary Gikungu.
The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Defence in collaboration with NMK, following a directive by President William Ruto.
The inspection focused on the remaining works and preparations for the upcoming memorial milestones in honour of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Also present were Chief in Charge of Special Projects at Defence Headquarters Brigadier Titus Sokobe, NMK Chairman Edwin Jacob Abonyo, Bondo Deputy County Commissioner Ali Manduku, NMK officials, Kenya Defence Forces officers and National Government Administration Officers.
The mausoleum is being developed as a permanent memorial at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, alongside the resting place of Kenya’s first Vice President, the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
The project was formally launched in July, with the Kenya Defence Forces taking charge of construction and NMK providing heritage and technical support.
With the works now more than 95 per cent complete, the remaining tasks include final finishing and inspection ahead of the planned unveiling next week.
