The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has opened party membership registration and verification ahead of its 2027 party primaries.
The exercise is expected to determine who will participate in the party’s nomination contests.
In a notice dated September 29, National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) chairperson Emily Awiti urged ODM supporters to register as members ahead of the primaries.
“As we prepare for the forthcoming Party Primaries ahead of the 2027 General Election, the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC) encourages all Party supporters to register as Party members,” Awiti said.
The party has provided a digital platform through which supporters can register by dialing *483*036# or visiting the ODM membership website.
Existing members have also been urged to verify their membership details to ensure their information has been captured correctly and remains up to date.
Awiti said membership registration and verification would be critical ahead of the party primaries, with only registered members allowed to take part in the nomination process.
“Please note that only registered Party members will be eligible to participate in the Party Primaries, either as voters or aspirants,” she said.
The directive effectively puts party membership at the centre of ODM’s preparations for the 2027 general election, as the party begins laying the groundwork for its nomination process.
Supporters requiring assistance with registration or verification have been directed to visit ODM headquarters at Chungwa House in Nairobi or contact the party through the number provided in the notice.
The membership exercise comes as political parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 elections, with nominations expected to be an important stage in determining candidates for elective positions.
ODM is expected to use its membership register to establish eligible participants in its primary elections and ensure that those seeking the party’s nomination meet the required membership conditions.
Awiti’s urged party supporters to complete the registration and verification process ahead of the primaries.
ODM is expected to hold party primaries in elective seats where more than one aspirant seeks the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Seats where only one aspirant emerges may not require a competitive primary, allowing the party to focus its resources on areas where there is a contest for the ticket.
