Zetech Sparks FC head coach Fakhir Harriet is confident her side can deliver a strong performance against champions Kenya Police Bullets on Monday.

“We are facing the defending champions and I don’t think their target this year is any different. It is going to be a tough match but we are really really prepared,” Harriet said.

Sparks head into the fixture on the back of a convincing 3–1 victory over Elim White Ladies in their opening match of the season and Harriet believes the result demonstrated the team’s preparedness and provided an indication of what they can offer this season.

“The win against Elim White Ladies gave us a big picture of how many chances we can create and how good we are going forward," said Harriet.

"It showed our character and how we can manage pressure, especially in an away fixture. It was a good game to assess the team and see how ready we are for this season.”

However, she acknowledged that Sparks will have to adjust their tactics depending on the strengths and style of their opponents.

“The game plan matters, from match to match. How you approach your opponents sometimes changes depending on the opponent and how they play," she observed.

With Police Bullets boasting a strong squad and experience of competing at the top level, Harriet says Zetech will focus on exploiting their strengths while limiting the champions’ strengths.

“We are going to use our moments and not play an open match because of the ability of our opponents. We have to find a way to minimise their strengths. We will attack, but in a slightly different way. Either way, we will score,” she said.

A positive result against the champions could provide Sparks with significant confidence early in the campaign and Harriet believes that victory would not only lift the team’s morale but also reinforce belief they can compete against any one.

“A win in this match will definitely boost our morale. It will also show that any team is beatable. What matters is how you prepare, how well the team understands the plan and how well we apply it,” Harriet said.

Police Bullets will seek to underline their status as the defending champions, buoyed by a 6-0 thrashing of Bungoma Queens 6 – 0 in their opening fixture.
