Kenya and Egypt have agreed to strengthen cooperation in the mining sector through capacity building, joint research, investment promotion and the exchange of technical expertise and technology.

The agreement followed a bilateral meeting between Kenya’s representative Hassan Joho and Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badwi, who explored ways of deepening existing relations between the two countries.

“Our two countries share similar aspirations to develop the mining sector as a key pillar of our respective economies,” Joho said.

The two sides agreed to enhance collaboration in capacity building, joint research and investment promotion to support the growth of the sector.

They also committed to promoting peer-to-peer exchanges to facilitate the sharing of knowledge, expertise and technology among professionals from the two countries.

The cooperation is expected to provide opportunities for both countries to learn from each other’s experiences and explore approaches to developing their mineral resources.

The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships to improve technical capacity and encourage investment in the mining industry.

Mining remains an important area of economic development for countries seeking to expand investment opportunities, create employment and increase the contribution of natural resources to their economies.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Kenya and Egypt through cooperation in areas of shared interest.

Further details on the implementation of the agreed initiatives, including specific projects and timelines, were not provided in the statement.
