Ministry of Health is warning Kenyans to take precautions against food-borne diseases as heavy rains are expected in the coming weeks. The ministry says flooding and contaminated water could increase cases of cholera and typhoid, while high humidity may cause mold growth and aflatoxin contamination in food. Households have been advised to store drinking water safe, keep food in dry containers and maintain proper hygiene. Food vendors have also been advised to keep food covered and raised off the ground. The ministry is also calling on communities to clear drainage systems and prepare for the rains early.
