MPs have approved a motion seeking a policy framework to deploy National Youth Service graduates as security officers in government institutions. The motion, sponsored by Kilifi Woman Rep Gertrude Mbeyu, aims to create employment opportunities for thousands of young people while reducing government expenditure on private security firms. Lawmakers argue that absorbing some of the 18,000 NYS graduates produced annually would help tackle youth unemployment and cut the billions of shillings spent on outsourced security services.
