Local assembly of electric vehicles could create significantly more jobs and retain more money in Kenya than importing fully built vehicles. Kenya Association of Manufacturers CEO Tobias Olando says assembling 100,000 electric vehicles locally could support about over 6,000 jobs initially, rising to 12,500 as production expands, while retaining about Sh12.2 billionin local value annually. KAM says fully built imports would support about 400 jobs and retain about 6-point-nine billion shillings.
