Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru At the Opening Session of the UN General AssemblyKirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has described Kenya’s participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York as “a step in the right direction, in sync with the world.”
Waiguru, who is accompanying President William Ruto in New York, said Kenya was joining global leaders in shaping key priorities affecting the international community.
“At the Opening Session of the UN General Assembly this morning, I was honoured to accompany H.E. the President William Ruto as Kenya joined global leaders in shaping key global priorities,” Waiguru said.
She also accompanied Ruto during his engagement with Kenyans living in the United States, where the Kenya Diaspora Impact Platform was launched.

Ruto said the diaspora was an important part of Kenya’s growth story, citing their contribution through remittances, investment, expertise, innovation and global networks.
"Kenyans in the diaspora can be good human resource capital and can deploy their knowledge and expertise to invest in opportunities at home," he stated.
"Trust must be at the centre for this initiative to succeed. Information must be reliable, and transparency should be the operating principle if the platform has to achieve its objectives," President Ruto said.
He said the platform would help deepen the diaspora’s participation in community projects, financing of micro, small and medium enterprises, enterprise development and skills transfer.
The President also addressed a UNICEF-convened High-Level Dialogue on Debt, Development and the Next Generation, where he called for reforms to the global financial architecture.
Ruto said debt servicing should not come at the expense of investment in education, healthcare, nutrition and social protection, calling for greater access to affordable and concessional financing for developing countries.
He said Kenya was pursuing responsible fiscal management and stronger domestic resource mobilisation while continuing to invest in its people.
