Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has warned against what he described as divisive politics in the Mt Kenya region, urging residents to remain united and support President William Ruto’s development agenda.

Speaking in Murang’a County on Wednesday, Kindiki said the government would remain focused on delivering its programmes despite criticism from political opponents.

He urged residents to support Ruto’s re-election bid, saying the government should be given time to complete its agenda before politics takes centre stage.

“We should support President William Ruto for re-election and later he will join retired President Uhuru in retirement. Do not listen to those telling you they were in government. What did they do when they were in government?” Kindiki asked.

Kindiki said he would continue touring the Mt Kenya region to promote unity and development as political activity intensifies ahead of the 2027 General Election.

His remarks came days after Mt Kenya elders endorsed him as the region’s spokesperson and representative, with a mandate to promote unity and reconciliation among the Gikuyu, Embu and Meru communities.

The Deputy President said the government would continue implementing its development agenda, citing the reduction in fertiliser prices as one of the measures aimed at supporting farmers and increasing agricultural production.

Kindiki also criticised opposition leaders whom he accused of inciting the public against the government. He said he would not engage in politics based on insults or hatred.

Instead, he said his focus would remain on development and efforts to unite the region rather than responding to personal attacks from political opponents.

Maragua MP Mary Wamaua urged Kindiki to continue with his unity campaign across the region, saying residents would support the re-election of Ruto and his deputy.

Kangema MP Peter Kihungi also called on the community to support the government, citing development projects in the region.

“We will support you, and we are fully behind you. We need to strengthen GEMA unity,” Kihungi said.

He urged leaders and residents in Mt Kenya to work together and promote unity as Kindiki steps up his engagements across the region following the elders’ call for reconciliation.
