The government has reaffirmed its crackdown on illegal donkey slaughter and trade in donkey products across the Eastern region. Eastern Regional Commissioner Jacob Muganda said the Kithioko abattoir in Machakos will remain closed until its operations are officially authorised. He warned that individuals involved in illegal slaughter and the trade of donkey products will face legal action. Muganda said donkeys remain an important source of livelihood and transport for communities, particularly in the Lower Eastern region.j
