Politician Bernard Odhuno waves to wanainchi when he toured Sindo town market in Suba South constituency/Robert Omollo
Suba South MP aspirant Bernard Odhuno has urged youths in Homa Bay to embrace farming as a way of improving their economic power.
Odhuno argued that youths have the potential to generate income and have a stable source of income through farming and agricultural activities.
He said infrastructural developments initiated by President William Ruto will facilitate farming and agriculture in Suba South and the entire Homa Bay County.
Some of the notable projects President Ruto opened for use in the Suba South Constituency include Kijebi and Sindo markets. Other ongoing road projects include the Koguta-Nyabera and Lwanda-Nyakiamo roads. The 54-kilometre Mbita-Sindo-Magunga-Sori road is also under construction.
Construction of the Lake Victoria Ring Road will soon begin, according to a promise made by President Ruto.
The ring road starts from Busia County to Migori County.

Odhuno said the projects will transform the lives of many youths, especially those in the agricultural and transport sectors.
Youths were urged to take advantage of the projects to transform their living standards.
Suba South is known as the grain basket of Homa Bay and the largest fish producer, as it has the longest shoreline in the county.
"Farming and agriculture in general remain the sector with a lot of opportunities for the youths to earn a living and generate income. Let youths in the Suba region take advantage of the rolled-out projects to improve their living standards," Odhuno said.
Speaking to the press when he toured Sindo town in the constituency, Odhuno said the projects will attract a number of investments in the Suba region once they are complete.
The Kenya Kwanza administration has built the Homa Bay pier and earmarked Kendu Bay pier and other fish landing sites in the county for construction.
According to Odhuno, most beaches in Suba South Constituency will have access roads that will facilitate the transportation of fish and other agricultural produce to markets.
Cage fish farming is already taking place in the lake waters in both Suba South and Suba North constituencies.
Victory Farms has already established cages for fish farming at Roo Beach in Suba South Constituency and has employed a number of youths. Odhuno said the method of fish farming has more advantages than the one where people used to cast nets and fish manually.
"The aquaculture business which is taking shape in beaches will greatly be boosted with the improvement and tarmacking of roads. We encourage our people to engage in product diversification to enhance their economic power," he said.
Odhuno said they are supporting farmers in their cooperatives so that they do not sell their produce at throwaway prices, which leads to losses.
Politicians were urged to engage in peaceful campaigns to enable residents to benefit from the projects.
He argued that rhetoric may interfere with the completion of the projects.
"We should focus on increasing value from goods produced locally. It is upon us to utilise resources we have prudently for the benefit of our people," Odhuno added.
