The Nairobi County Government has rolled out a 2.4 billion shilling flood mitigation programme as the capital prepares for El Niño rains. Governor Johnson Sakaja said the county has identified major flood hotspots and is working with state agencies to enhance preparedness. The program includes desilting rivers, clearing blocked drainage channels, expanding drainage capacity and constructing outfall drains. The county is also preparing emergency shelters for residents who may be evacuated, in collaboration with KURA, KeNHA, KeRRA, the Kenya Red Cross and the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
