Daniel Sakari has spent much of his career running into space, chasing opponents down and pushing forward from the right flank.

The 26-year-old Harambee Stars defender joined Gor Mahia from rivals Kenya Police FC on a two-year contract in the preceding season, bringing pace, stamina and top-flight experience to the reigning SportPesa League champions.

Sakari, who wears the number 20 shirt at Gor, arrived with a career shaped by steady progression rather than overnight success.

His journey began with Green Commandos and Kakamega Homeboyz before he established himself at Kariobangi Sharks, where his attacking instincts and ability to cover ground quickly made him one of the league’s notable right-backs.

A move to Tusker in 2021 took his career another step forward. Over three seasons, he experienced domestic success and continental football before joining Kenya Police in 2024.

His performances there kept him among the established defenders in the Kenyan game and eventually earned him a move across the capital to Gor Mahia.

The switch presented a different challenge. At Gor, Sakari will be competing for honours on two fronts, with the club seeking to defend its domestic crown while also navigating the demands of the CAF Champions League.

For a player whose game has been built around energy and movement, the role of a modern full-back appears well suited to his strengths. Sakari can provide defensive cover while also offering an outlet when Gor Mahia attack down the right.

His football journey has also been accompanied by academic achievement.

Sakari holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, giving his story another dimension beyond the football pitch.

At international level, Sakari made his Harambee Stars debut during the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup. He has since featured in Kenya squads for AFCON and FIFA World Cup qualifying campaigns.
