Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo speaking during President William Ruto's visit to Karachuonyo, Homa Bay county on September 17, 2026

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has urged young people in Karachuonyo to reject political violence and resist being used by leaders to cause disorder, loss of life and destruction of property.

Speaking during President William Ruto’s visit to Karachuonyo, Homa Bay County, Omollo appealed to young people to maintain peace and discipline even when they disagree with political leaders.

He said political differences should not be a reason for young people to fight or disrupt meetings.

“Let us not allow ourselves to be misused by leaders to cause violence, loss of life or destruction of property,” Omollo said.

Omollo said it was wrong for young people to push and fight one another simply because they supported different political leaders.

He urged those who did not support a particular leader to stay away from the leader’s meeting rather than engage in confrontation.

“As your fellow young person, it does not reflect well on us when we are the ones causing disorder, pushing one another and fighting simply because we dislike a particular leader,” he said.

The remarks came during Ruto’s tour of Nyanza, where the President has been meeting residents and local leaders while highlighting development projects undertaken by his administration.

Omollo also praised Ruto for what he described as development brought to Karachuonyo and other parts of the country.

“On behalf of the people of Karachuonyo, me included, I want to thank you, the President, for the development you have brought us and the same development you have taken to the rest of the country,” he said.

Omollo also urged residents to participate in the electoral process by acquiring national identity cards and registering as voters.

He said the process would enable them to exercise their democratic rights in the 2027 General Election.

“On behalf of the people of Karachuonyo and Homa Bay County, we assure you that we shall acquire our national identity cards, register as voters and, when the election comes on August 10 next year, we shall give you our overwhelming support,” Omollo said.

The call for peaceful political engagement comes as parties and political leaders intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Omollo has previously warned young people against being used in political violence and urged them to stay away from meetings involving leaders they do not support.

He has also said political differences should be settled through peaceful democratic participation rather than confrontation.

In Karachuonyo, Omollo said young people had a responsibility to protect peace and avoid actions that could lead to loss of life or destruction of property.

He also thanked Ruto for visiting the area, saying the President’s presence provided an opportunity for residents and leaders to engage on development needs.
