The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a search for a man it alleges obtained money from job seekers by falsely promising them employment and travel opportunities in Canada.

The DCI said the man is wanted in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged recruitment fraud targeting people seeking jobs abroad.

According to the DCI, the man allegedly posed as a person capable of facilitating employment and travel to Canada, offering prospective applicants various job opportunities.

Investigators said he allegedly demanded substantial amounts of money from applicants, claiming the funds would cater for visa processing, medical examinations, biometrics and air travel.

The DCI said investigations had established that some of the documents and travel arrangements allegedly presented to complainants were fraudulent.

“The suspect is alleged to have posed as a person capable of facilitating employment opportunities and travel to Canada,” the DCI said.

The DCI said a warrant of arrest has been issued against the man and remains in force.

The agency said the man is currently at large as detectives intensify efforts to establish his whereabouts and apprehend him.

The DCI appealed to members of the public with information that could assist investigators in tracing him.

The latest alert comes amid continued efforts by Kenyan authorities to crack down on alleged fraudulent recruitment schemes targeting people seeking employment opportunities abroad.

Such schemes often involve promises of jobs and travel arrangements in exchange for upfront payments for purported recruitment, visa and travel-related expenses.

The DCI urged anyone who may have information about the man's whereabouts to report to the nearest police station.

Members of the public can also provide information anonymously through the agency’s #FichuaKwaDCI platform.

The DCI provided a toll-free telephone line, 0800 722 203, and a WhatsApp number, 0709 570 000, for members of the public wishing to share information.

The agency assured informants that information received would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

The DCI has asked members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with individuals offering overseas employment opportunities and to verify recruitment and travel arrangements before making payments.
