The Teachers Service Commission has invited teachers to submit performances and other creative works celebrating the teaching profession ahead of this year’s World Teachers’ Day and as the commission also marks 60th anniversary.

The creative submissions will be inspired by the theme “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.”

Submissions can be in the form of poems, spoken word, narrations and storytelling, songs, short dramatic pieces and other creative works emailed to [email protected] with 'WTD Creative Submission' as the subject.

The teacher employer said the deadline for submissions is September 20, 2026, at 5 pm.

“Selected pieces will feature on official TSC pages, with the best showcased at the celebrations,” the commission said.

The initiative forms part of TSC’s preparations for World Teachers’ Day, which is celebrated globally on October 5 to recognise the contribution of teachers to education and society.

This year’s national celebrations will be held at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi, where TSC will also recognise outstanding teachers through its 2026 World Teachers’ Day awards.

The awards target registered teachers currently in service and retired teachers who have made demonstrable contributions to teaching and learning in recognised public, private and international institutions in Kenya.

They cover primary, junior, secondary and senior schools as well as teacher training colleges.

The recognition spans 13 categories: Lifetime Achievement Award, Early Years Educator Award, Sustainable Development Educator Award, Early Career Educator Award, School Leadership Excellence Award, Inclusive Educator Award, Child Protection Champion Award, Co-curricular and Talent Development Award, Teacher Mentor Award, Innovation and ICT Integration in Teaching Award, Most Resilient Teacher Award, National Honours Award and International Recognition Award.

TSC says the awards seek to identify and celebrate educators who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, leadership, inclusivity, resilience and professional commitment, particularly where their work has produced measurable improvements in teaching and learning.

“The awards are intended to document and reward measurable contributions by teachers, while encouraging replication of effective practices across learning institutions.”

The event will be preceded by a charity marathon on September 27 across the eight regions in the country, which will be used to raise funds to meet part of the costs.

The creative submissions provide another avenue for teachers to reflect on and celebrate the profession as TSC marks six decades of protecting its status and recognising its contribution to shaping generations of learners.

The commission said the selected works will receive a wider publicity through its official channels and the national celebrations.
