The Public Service Commission has announced 1,000 internship opportunities under the Ministry of Education’s Digital Literacy Programme targeting graduates with qualifications in information and communication technology and education.

Digital Learning Programme (DLP), also known as the Digital Literacy Programme, is a national government project that brings computer technology into public schools to improve teaching and learning.

Successful applicants will be the fifth cohort to be deployed under the programme administered by the State Department for Basic Education as part of efforts to strengthen digital learning in schools.

The interns will serve for 12 months on a non-renewable basis, gaining practical skills and experience while supporting the implementation of digital learning programmes in primary schools.

Successful applicants will be deployed to schools at subcounty level and will support teachers and schools in the use of digital learning devices, e-learning platforms and other technology-based education services.

According to the PSC, applicants must have graduated no earlier than 2022 to qualify for consideration.

They must also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Education with a specialisation in ICT, a Bachelor’s degree in ICT, a Diploma in ICT or a Diploma in ICT Integration in Education from a recognised institution.

Candidates are expected to have knowledge and skills in areas including networking and infrastructure, application development, information security and project management.

The commission also requires applicants to demonstrate the ability to integrate ICT into education, particularly in e-learning and content development, as well as skills in research and innovation to support the Digital Literacy Programme.

Successful candidates will be required to work on a full-time basis and must be willing to be deployed to any Subcounty Education office.

Applicants must also not have previously benefited from a similar internship programme.

What the interns will do

The interns will support e-learning and digital content development in line with schools' schemes of work.

They will also provide classroom support and train primary school teachers on the use of digital literacy devices while assisting schools in implementing the Digital Learning Programme.

Other responsibilities will include developing innovations to improve the use of digital learning technologies in schools and promoting the safe, secure and ethical use of technology in learning.

The interns will assist teachers to integrate ICT into the delivery of teaching, learning and assessment, as well as support school staff in developing and producing key policies and procedures.

They will also provide first-line support and maintenance of ICT services in schools.

The State Department for Basic Education will pay the interns a stipend at a rate determined by the Government.

Those who complete the 12-month programme will receive certificates from the State Department for Basic Education.

The PSC said interested and qualified candidates must submit their applications online through the commission's job portal by October 5, 2026.
