Matatu owners have threatened to withdraw their vehicles from the roads if fuel prices are not reduced further by next month. Matatu Owners Association Chair Albert Karakacha says the global oil price has dropped to about 68 dollars per barrel, which should be reflected in local pump prices. He wants fuel prices reduced to between 140 and 160 shillings per litre, saying the current prices are hurting the matatu business and ordinary Kenyans.
