KUCCPS engages students at Our Lady of Victories Forest Hill and Maryland Secondary Schools on career selection and application process on September 14 /KUCCPS

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has taken its career guidance campaign to secondary schools in Nakuru county as Form 4 students prepare for next year’s university and college applications.

The week-long outreach programme, which began on Monday, is targeting 15 secondary schools within Subukia subcounty with sessions on tertiary education opportunities, course selection and the application process.

The outreach started on Monday with engagements at Our Lady of Victories Forest Hill and Maryland Secondary Schools.

On Tuesday, the KUCCPS team visited Subukia Mixed Day and Boarding Senior School, Magomano Senior School, St Yermi Senior School and Kieni Senior School, where it engaged Form 4 students on options available after secondary school.

“The sessions focus on tertiary education opportunities, course selection and the application process,” KUCCPS said.

The engagements are aimed at “empowering students to make informed choices about their future, it added.

The placement agency said the initiative is intended to help students understand their post-secondary options and make informed decisions when applying for university and college programmes.

KUCCPS said the campaign is part of its efforts to widen access to career guidance and information on higher education and training opportunities.

“We are committed to enhancing equitable access to career guidance and higher education and training opportunities for all Kenyans,” the agency said.

The school visits will culminate in a Citizen Engagement Forum on Friday, September 18, 2026, at Subukia Social Hall, where citizens will also have access to various government services.

The campaign comes as the current Form 4 cohort prepares for the transition to tertiary education in a few months' time, making career guidance and an understanding of the placement process critical as students consider courses and institutions.

KUCCPS is responsible for placing students in universities, colleges and other tertiary institutions, granting them an opportunity to enjoy government sponsorship and loans.

The outreach programmes give learners an opportunity to understand the application process and avoid critical errors that could reduce their chances of securing their preferred courses or lead to disqualification.

Common mistakes include adding courses to the Course Basket without completing the application. Students must proceed to the “Application/Revision” section and click “Apply Now” to formally submit their choices.

Applying for only one course can limit their options, while repeating the same course across all choices may reduce their chances of placement, particularly in competitive programmes such as medicine and engineering.

Students should arrange their course choices according to preference, with their most desired programme listed first, and confirm that they meet the required subject cluster grades and minimum entry requirements before applying.

They should also use the correct payment reference when completing the application, including the eCitizen confirmation rather than mistakenly entering an M-Pesa transaction ID.

Applicants are also advised to provide the correct phone numbers to ensure they receive important messages and placement updates.
