Police in Samburu have intercepted a vehicle carrying suspected counterfeit alcohol in an intelligence-led operation at the Suguta Marmar roadblock.

The operation involved officers from Suguta Marmar police station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Samburu Central, who acted on intelligence before intercepting the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of alcoholic products suspected to be counterfeit.

The interception is part of ongoing police operations targeting counterfeit alcoholic products and the networks involved in their production and distribution.

The National Police Service said the operation was aimed at preventing potentially harmful products from reaching unsuspecting consumers.

“Such interventions are important in keeping potentially harmful products from reaching unsuspecting consumers,” police said.

The recovered products will now undergo verification by the relevant agencies to establish their authenticity and determine the appropriate course of action.

Police detained the vehicle at Maralal police station as the verification process gets underway.

The NPS said further police action will follow once the relevant agencies complete the verification of the suspected counterfeit alcohol.

The operation underscores the role of intelligence-led policing in identifying and intercepting suspicious consignments before they are distributed to consumers.

Counterfeit alcoholic products remain a concern for law enforcement because products whose authenticity and safety have not been established can potentially expose consumers to harmful substances.

Police have continued to urge members of the public to share information that could help identify suspected counterfeit alcohol and the networks involved in its circulation.

The NPS encouraged anyone with information on suspected counterfeit alcohol or suspicious activity to report it to the police through the available channels.

Members of the public can make reports through the national toll-free emergency numbers 999 and 911.

Information can also be shared with the DCI through the #FichuaKwaDCI toll-free number 0800 722 203.

The DCI also receives reports through WhatsApp on 0709 570 000.

The NPS said information from the public remains important in helping authorities detect and disrupt the movement of suspected counterfeit products.

Meanwhile, the vehicle remains detained at Maralal Police Station pending verification of the recovered alcohol by the relevant agencies and further police action.
