Detectives have arrested another suspect in connection with the deadly violence and destruction witnessed during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ meeting in Embu.

The suspect was arrested on Monday, September 14, 2026, in the Kithimu area of Embu town during a coordinated operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Headquarters Operations Support Team (OAT) and the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Branch (CRIB).

The violence occurred on Saturday, September 12, during the UDA delegates’ meeting at Nembure Grounds, where Deputy President Kithure Kindiki was present.

The DCI said the arrest is part of intensified efforts to identify and apprehend other suspects believed to have participated in the violence.

“The DCI remains relentless in pursuing those responsible for the criminal acts committed during the unrest,” the agency said.

The DCI warned that those who participated in the violence, regardless of their motive or political affiliation, would be identified, arrested and brought to justice.

The agency has urged members of the public with information on the incidents to report anonymously through its toll-free line 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.

The arrests come as detectives continue investigations into the events that disrupted the UDA meeting and left a trail of destruction.

On Sunday, two suspects were arrested following the violent disruption of a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ meeting at Nembure Grounds in Embu on Saturday.

The agency said detectives were pursuing additional suspects linked to the criminal acts committed during the unrest.

The DCI warned that political differences must not become a licence for lawlessness, saying no grievance, disagreement or political affiliation places anyone above the law.

It said those found to have attacked others, torched vehicles, destroyed property, barricaded public roads or assaulted police officers would be pursued, arrested and brought to justice.

The DCI urged the public with information about the incident to report anonymously through its Fichua Kwa DCI initiative.

One person was fatally injured, and six vehicles were torched during chaos that erupted at a public meeting presided over by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki in Nembure, Embu county, on Saturday.

According to the National Police Service, several other people were injured after a group attempted to storm the meeting, prompting officers to intervene and restore order.

In a statement issued by the NPS Headquarters, Director Corporate Communication and NPS spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said officers acted after the group attempted to breach the meeting.

The incident occurred during a United Democratic Alliance meeting in Nembure.

After the disruption, Kindiki condemned the violence and called for action against those responsible.

“The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party regrets the loss and/ damage brought about by those responsible for organising the youth to disrupt our party meeting in Nembure, Embu earlier today,” he said.
