Linda Mwananchi supporters have started filling parts of Nairobi’s Central Business District as they gather ahead of a major political mobilisation tour led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Sunday.

The supporters arrived in the CBD as early as 8am, carrying placards and whistles as they waited for the start of the much-anticipated tour.

On Tom Mboya Street, the group danced energetically to anti-government songs, creating a charged atmosphere as more supporters continued to arrive.

Some businesses in parts of the Nairobi CBD were closed ahead of the rally, as police officers maintained a visible presence in the city in anticipation of the political procession.

The rally is being led by Sifuna alongside other political leaders, including Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and former nominated senator Millicent Omanga.

Outside All Saints Cathedral, large crowds also gathered, with some supporters carrying Kenyan flags as they waited for the church service to end.

The gathering marks the beginning of a day-long Linda Mwananchi mobilisation campaign that will take Sifuna and his supporters through several parts of Nairobi before culminating in a mega rally at Jacaranda Grounds.

The tour is scheduled to begin with a church service at All Saints Cathedral at 9 am.

From the cathedral, the procession is expected to move to Marikiti and Gikomba markets before proceeding to Burma Market.

The itinerary also includes Stage 17, B Centre and Manyanja, before the supporters move along Jogoo Road towards Jacaranda Grounds.

The tour is expected to conclude at around 2pm with a mega rally where Sifuna is scheduled to address supporters.

The Nairobi mobilisation is one of the biggest public tests yet for Linda Mwananchi and Sifuna, who has increasingly positioned himself as a prominent figure in opposition politics ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The senator is seeking to use the Nairobi tour to demonstrate the movement’s ability to mobilise large numbers in the capital while taking its anti-government message to residents in markets and densely populated neighbourhoods.

Sifuna has urged supporters to turn out in large numbers for what his allies have dubbed the “mother of all rallies” for the Nairobi senator.

The heightened security presence in parts of the city comes amid concerns over possible disruptions during the procession, with police officers deployed to maintain order as the crowds gather.

The Nairobi tour comes at a time of heightened political activity, with rival opposition formations seeking to consolidate support and position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
