A lawyer allegedly threatened to jump from the eighth floor of his office in Westlands, Nairobi, as he tried to evade arrest over alleged forgery, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The DCI said the lawyer was arrested at his office following a directive by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) to police in Parklands, Nairobi, to charge him.
According to the DCI, the ODPP's directive followed investigations into a complaint filed regarding alleged forgery.
The DCI alleged that the lawyer had presented documents bearing forged signatures before the Employment and Labour Relations Court.
According to the DCI, the lawyer purported that the complainants had signed a Change of Signatory & Fee Note Agreement for him to be paid Sh150 million upon conclusion of a case in which he alleged to have represented them.
The DCI said the complainants disputed having executed or signed the agreement.
According to the DCI, the disputed documents, together with specimens of the complainants' known signatures, were submitted to a forensic document examiner for analysis.
The DCI said the forensic report found that the documents presented before the court by the suspect were forged, supporting the complainants' assertion that the signatures appearing on the disputed documents were not theirs.
According to the DCI, a directive was issued on September 2, 2026, for the suspect to be charged with two counts of forgery and uttering a false document.
The DCI said the suspect was summoned to present himself at Parklands Police Station but did not do so, prompting officers to launch a manhunt for him.
According to the DCI, the suspect was traced to his office, where he allegedly threatened to jump from the eighth-floor window to evade arrest.
The DCI further alleged that after officers arrested him, the suspect resisted being handcuffed and bit two police officers who were trying to restrain him.
The DCI said that in addition to the two approved charges, the suspect will face additional counts of resisting arrest and assaulting police officers.
