Kenya is considering the duty-free importation of up to three million metric tonnes of white maize to avert a shortage and contain rising maize flour prices. Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe said the government was reviewing a request by the Cereal Millers Association for a nine-month duty-free import window. The proposal follows warnings from millers of declining maize production, which they said could strain supplies, create shortages and drive up the cost of unga across the country.
