Police arrest 12 in Siaya

Police in Siaya have arrested 12 people following a chaotic incident in which a group of youths allegedly attempted to obstruct a convoy of dignitaries in Siaya town.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident occurred on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, shortly after the conclusion of a women’s economic empowerment function held at the Siaya KMTC grounds.

The DCI said the convoy was heading towards a designated landing and take-off site when a group of youths allegedly attempted to force their way through a secured gate.

The youths allegedly obstructed the convoy and hurled stones at police officers manning the entrance, prompting officers to intervene and restore order.

“Police officers responded swiftly, restoring order and arresting 12 suspects believed to have been involved in the incident,” the DCI said in a statement.

The suspects are being held in police custody as they undergo processing pending arraignment.

Detectives have also launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any other people who may have been involved.

The DCI said it respects citizens’ right to assemble and express themselves peacefully but warned against violence, obstruction of lawful operations and attacks on police officers.

“The DCI reiterates that while citizens have the right to assemble and express themselves peacefully, violence, obstruction of lawful operations and attacks on police officers will not be tolerated,” the agency said.

It added: “Those who resort to disorder and violence will be held accountable in accordance with the law.”

The agency urged members of the public with information about the incident or other criminal activities to report anonymously through its toll-free line 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
