Concerns have been raised over IPOA’s ability to effectively oversee the police amid claims that officers are refusing to record statements on shootings and other excesses. Muhuri Rapid Response Officer Francis Auma says IPOA was mandated by Kenyans to ensure accountability in the police service, warning that if it cannot perform its role effectively, its existence should be reconsidered. He adds that such challenges could allow cases of police brutality to go unpunished.
