Joel Chacha/COURTESYChacha recently shared photographs documenting his journey from childhood fascination with aircraft to becoming a pilot.
One of the images shows him as a young schoolboy standing beside a helicopter, while the more recent photographs capture him in a pilot’s uniform.
“Once, the sky was a dream. Today, it is my view,” Chacha said in a post accompanying the photographs.
The achievement marks the fulfilment of a childhood dream that remained with him as his career took a different path.
Chacha first made his name in journalism, working as a political and parliamentary reporter at K24, where he covered national politics and parliamentary affairs.
He later moved into strategic communications and government service, where he has applied his experience in the newsroom to public communication.
He currently serves as Communications Adviser to Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
His transition from journalism to government communications has previously attracted attention, with Chacha explaining how the discipline acquired in the newsroom and his understanding of the media have helped shape his approach to strategic communication.
Away from public service, Chacha has also pursued interests in business, including agribusiness and exports, alongside his wife, Ellen Muthama.
His latest venture into aviation, however, appears to carry a more personal meaning.
The juxtaposition of his childhood photograph beside an aircraft and his current images in pilot uniform offers a visual account of a dream pursued over several years.
For Chacha, the journey from journalism to the cockpit is a reminder that childhood ambitions can survive even as life takes unexpected turns.
“From looking up at the sky to seeing the world from above it,” he said.
His story adds another dimension to a career that has moved from reporting on the country’s political affairs to shaping public communication, and now, taking to the skies.
