Kenya’s Malkia Strikers have stormed into the final of the 2026 CAVB Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship after sweeping aside arch-rivals Cameroon 3-0 at the Kasarani Indoor Arena on Thursday.
The defending champions produced a commanding display to seal victory in straight sets, with the final set ending 25-20.
The win keeps Kenya’s title defence on course as the Malkia Strikers chase a record-extending 11th continental crown. Kenya are also seeking to build on their 2023 triumph, when they defeated Egypt 3-0 in the final in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Kenya will face Egypt in Friday’s final after the North Africans defeated Rwanda 3-0 in the other semi-final. The final is scheduled for 6 pm.
The victory over Cameroon was another statement of Kenya’s dominance in a rivalry that has defined women’s volleyball on the continent for years. Kenya and Cameroon have shared the African title repeatedly, with the Malkia Strikers reclaiming the crown in 2023.
Kenya had reached the semi-finals after recovering from a first-set loss to beat Algeria 3-1 in the quarter-finals. They won the subsequent three sets 25-7, 25-15 and 25-18 to secure their place in the last four.
The 2026 championship is being held in Nairobi, with the tournament winners also earning direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.
Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano congratulated the Malkia Strikers following their victory, praising their resilience, teamwork and fighting spirit.
Miano said the team had continued to elevate Kenyan volleyball while showcasing the country’s sporting talent.
The Malkia Strikers will now turn their attention to Egypt as they seek to retain their African title on home soil.
