Chiki Kuruka, wife and manager of Sauti Sol star Bien-Aimé Baraza, has opened up about the personal philosophy that has shaped her life, as she marked her 38th birthday.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Chiki shared a heartfelt message thanking fans for the outpouring of birthday love, while reflecting on a decision she credits for her happiness.
The Decision That Changed Everything
Chiki revealed that letting go of the need to be liked has been the most impactful choice of her adult life.
"I gave up trying to be 'liked' and instead put my energy on being happy and being decent," she wrote.
She explained that this single shift has had a lasting effect on her wellbeing.
Choosing Peace Over Approval
Chiki went on to explain what that decision means for her day-to-day life, particularly when it comes to other people's opinions of her.
"It means I don't actually care about so much that burdens other people," she wrote.
She added that this mindset allows her to direct her energy where it truly matters.
"Instead allows me to put ALL my energy behind humans who I love and respect and who love and respect me in return, without the need to drag along those who clearly don't," she wrote.
A Wave Of Support From All Walks Of Life
The choreographer and fitness instructor also spoke about the diversity of messages she received on her special day, describing it as a meaningful reflection of the life she has built.
"Getting messages today from the wide range of backgrounds, economic, gender, sexual orientation, race, ability level, makes me realise I've done SOMETHING right," she wrote.
She closed her message with a note of gratitude to everyone who had reached out.
"Thank you ALL for the love. I don't take a single message, or voice note for granted," she wrote.
Chiki has previously spoken about the demands of balancing both roles, admitting that managing her husband's international tours while also being present as his wife can be emotionally draining.
Despite the pressure, she has continued running her own dance company alongside her management duties, crediting a strong team for keeping it running smoothly even while she is away on tour.
