Kenya is hurtling into a state of unprecedented lawlessness that could soon morph into the anarchy that Thomas Hobbes described LIFE as nasty, brutish and short.
UDA-nominated MP Joseph Wainaina seems to be the latest in a long list of pig-headed politicians to send a chilling warning to a large swathe of Rift Valley by announcing, seemingly without fear of arrest or prosecution, that anyone with ancestral roots in Mt Kenya and who will not vote for President William Ruto’s reelection should pack their bags and leave.
These politicians seem to suffer such grave amnesia, they have forgotten the mayhem we found ourselves in 2007.
The likes of Wainaina will no doubt have been encouraged by the slow, ineffective and soft treatment they have come to expect from the National Cohesion and Integration Commission.
We have said in this column time and time again that we are in a country where there is a total breakdown of law and order.
The police have long lost interest in their role and are busy chasing quick riches by endlessly inventing methods for shameless self-enrichment.
Their political godfathers have their snouts deep into the trough of public cash and oblivious to the frustration engulfing the country.
This is a time for top cop Douglas Kanja to realise he is toying with fire by not cracking the whip. The window of opportunity grows narrow with each day he tolerates empty headed demagogues.
