Police have launched investigations into three separate incidents involving the discovery of human remains and the deaths of two people in Machakos, Embu and Narok counties.
In Masinga, Machakos county, detectives are investigating after human body parts believed to belong to an unidentified woman were found dumped in a well in Mukengesya village.
The remains were discovered on Monday by a farmhand clearing a farm near Mukengesya River.
The worker opened the well after noticing a foul smell and found one large sack and three smaller sacks floating in the water.
Police visited the scene in Thatha, Kithyoko Location, and established that the well was about 10 feet in diameter. It had been secured with an iron lid, although the padlock was found broken.
The four sacks were retrieved and opened, revealing human body parts believed to be those of an unidentified African adult female, alongside stones.
Machakos police boss Monicah Kimani said investigators were unable to establish when the woman was killed, mutilated and her remains dumped in the well.
The scene was processed and documented before the remains were taken to Machakos Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary, pending a postmortem examination.
In Mbeere North, Embu county, police are investigating the death of an 80-year-old woman who was allegedly assaulted by unknown persons.
Felista Ngithi Mbuko, a resident of Kiarwarwa village in Muchonoke, was reportedly attacked and seriously injured.
Family members took her to Muchonoke Dispensary, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body had multiple injuries to the back of the head, chest, arms and neck. The remains were taken to Gakwegori Private Mortuary, pending an autopsy.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspected murder and seeking to establish the identity and motive of the attackers.
Meanwhile, police in Narok have launched a manhunt for three suspects following the death of a man who was allegedly attacked and seriously injured in the Olokurto area.
Joseph Njogu died at Bethany Hospital after sustaining deep cuts to his forehead and right hand following an incident reported on Monday, August 31.
A witness found Njogu bleeding and said the victim told him he had been attacked by three men. The witness mobilised assistance and took him to a local hospital, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
Police processed the scene as detectives began investigations. Njogu’s body was awaiting removal to Narok Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.
