Psychologist Silas Kiriinya is urging families and friends to look beyond physical injuries when identifying people trapped in abusive relationships. He says warning signs include isolation, unexplained fear of a partner, sudden personality changes, excessive monitoring of communication, financial control, jealousy, humiliation, threats and destruction of property. Kiriinya says escalating control is particularly dangerous because victims may lose the freedom and confidence to speak out or seek help.
