The family of the late Stoopid Boy, a late Arbantone rapper, is mourning his sudden passing on Thursday, 27 August 2026. Famous for his viral track "G Bag Na Jug", the Gotta City musician allegedly died by suicide.
The tragedy occurred after the family buried his elder brother, Ian, a few months prior.
In a sombre interview on YouTube with Street Vybez Media Hub, the rapper's father, George William Ochieng Awili, spoke out. He opened up about his son's childhood, his inherent musical talents, and the unique origin of his stage name.
Birth of a Footballing Namesake
During the emotional interview, the father introduced himself and shared details of his son's birth. Having been a football player himself, George William named his children after legendary sports stars. His eldest son was named after Arsenal striker Ian Wright.
George William explained:
"My name is George William Ochieng Awili, mimi ndio babake Stoopid Boy. For real, I have been with my son for so long na niko na uchungu sana."
He further detailed how the name Edgar was selected:
"My elder son nilimpatia jina ya Ian Wright kwa sababu mimi nilikuwa mchezaji. Jina ya Edgar imekuja juu ya 1998 World Cup. Kuna mchezaji alikuwa anaitwa Edgar, he was left-legged na nilipomuona nikaambia mamake mtoto akizaliwa tutamuita Edgar."
When the child was born on 28 October 2001, he was officially named Edgar Davids Odhiambo Ochieng.
From Schoolyard Taunts to Stage Name
According to his father, Edgar was very mischievous as a child. His behaviour at school often provoked his peers, leading to a recurring insult that eventually became his artistic identity.
George William recalled:
"The boy himself while growing up, alikuwa kijana wa vituko sana. Hata akienda shule amechokoza mtu na sasa wenzake walikuwa wanamuona wanamuita, 'Wee kijana mjinga wewe’,” the father revealed.
Instead of taking offence, the young Edgar embraced the insult.
The father added:
"So, na yeye akajiita sasa 'I am stupid'. That’s how the name 'Stoopid Boy' was born."
A Born Musician with Ancestral Talent
The father also revealed that his son's musical talent showed itself exceptionally early in life. George William used to sing popular reggae music to him when he was an infant.
He remembered:
"Mimi nikimlea nilikuwa napenda ngoma ya Beenie Man ile inaimba “Sim-simma, who got di keys to my Bimma.” The boy at the age of 7 months, alikuwa asha anza kufuata hizo beats nikiimba. Na akagrow na hiyo talent."
The father believes this talent is a hereditary trait running deep within their bloodline.
George William concluded:
"Apart from that, brotherke mamangu alikuwa ni mtu wa Kamba nane, so hii talent ya muziki nafikiri ni ya ukoo."
