The Kenya National Examinations has opened applications seeking an experienced professional to provide strategic and operational leadership at the Council Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme.

The Pension Manager post comes with a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the role.

The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the Board of Trustees' vision, mission, strategic plan, policies and resolutions while supporting the board in its fiduciary, governance and statutory responsibilities.

In ad advert, KNEC said the office bearer will also coordinate board activities, including meetings, trustee development, evaluations and governance reviews, as well as follow up on the implementation of board decisions.

A key part of the role will be overseeing the scheme's financial and investment affairs.

The manager will be expected to drive growth of scheme assets, income streams and retirement products, while overseeing budgeting, financial management, resource allocation and cost control.

The officer will also monitor the performance of investments, properties, fund managers, custodians and other service providers to help maximise returns.

On member services, the Pension Manager will oversee pension administration and ensure members receive their benefits on time.

The officer will also develop member education, communication, retirement planning and engagement programmes while maintaining relationships with members, sponsors, retirees, beneficiaries, regulators and other stakeholders.

The role further requires the manager to ensure compliance with pension legislation and establish effective risk management, internal control and compliance systems.

The successful applicant will also be expected to lead digital transformation, process automation and business process improvement, while strengthening the scheme's organisational capacity through recruitment, staff performance management, training, succession planning and continuous professional development.

Who can apply

The role requires applicants to hold a bachelor's degree in Business Management, Actuarial Science or another relevant field from a recognised institution.

A master's degree will be an added advantage.

Candidates must have at least 10 years of post-qualification experience, including a minimum of five years at senior management level in the pension sector  in an organisation of similar scale and complexity.

Applicants must also possess a professional qualification relevant to their area of specialisation and be members of the appropriate professional body.

The scheme requires candidates to have undertaken leadership training lasting at least four weeks, as well as demonstrable knowledge and experience in accounting, investment management and fund management processes.

They must also have an in-depth understanding of pension laws and regulations in Kenya and be registered with the Retirement Benefits Authority (RBA) as a Scheme Administrator.

The application must include an updated CV showing the applicant's current position and salary, together with the names, addresses and contacts of three referees.

Candidates must also attach copies of relevant academic and professional certificates, testimonials and other supporting documents.
