The University Academic Staff Union (UASU) has rejected Moi University management’s decision to declare 75 faculty members redundant. UASU accused the university of seeking to replace permanent and pensionable staff with part-time lecturers, terming the move illegal, inhumane and a casualisation of academic labour. The union said redundancies were unnecessary, noting that student numbers are rising and the university needs more academic staff.
