The 2024 Gen Z-led protests have prompted the government to adopt more responsive approaches to taxation, public participation and communication, with digital platforms increasingly being used to engage citizens and improve tax compliance. Since the protests, the Kenya Revenue Authority has expanded digital compliance initiatives, while Treasury has increased public engagement on Finance Bills and budget proposals through forums, media platforms and public hearings. The changes have strengthened the government’s focus on listening to citizens, explaining policies more clearly and using technology to make public services and revenue collection more efficient.
