Kenyans in cities and urban centres have been warned against dumping waste in drainage systems, rivers and storm-water channels ahead of projected El Niño rains between October and December. National Disaster Operations Centre Director David Samoei said national and county governments are unclogging waterways to prepare for heavy rains. He warned that careless waste disposal obstructs efforts to prevent and reduce flooding.
