Detectives are pursuing two passengers suspected of killing a 23-year-old bodaboda rider and stealing his motorcycle in Kamulu, Machakos County.
Samuel Mwangangi, a resident of Mukuru Kwa Njenga in Nairobi County, had reportedly been hired by two pillion passengers to ferry them to the Kamulu area on Tuesday night.
According to police, the two passengers attacked Mwangangi near Bikira Maria Primary School after turning against him.
The suspects are said to have struck him on the head with a blunt object, leaving him unconscious, before fleeing with his motorcycle.
Good Samaritans who found him at the scene rushed him to Megalife Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The rescuers reportedly accessed the deceased’s phone and contacted his brother, who travelled to the hospital and identified the victim.
Police visited and processed the scene as investigations into the robbery and killing began.
The victim’s body was transferred to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital mortuary, where it will be preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Detectives are pursuing the two passengers suspected of luring the rider before attacking him and stealing his motorcycle.
Police advise those targeted in such incidents to cooperate for their own safety.
Police in Lari, Kiambu County, have also launched investigations into the death of a seven-year-old boy who allegedly sustained severe injuries after being beaten by his father.
The boy was taken to Rukuma Level 4 Hospital on Wednesday for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 7:15pm by a medical practitioner at the facility.
The medical practitioner alerted Lari police after examining the boy and finding him unresponsive. Officers from Lari Police Station and DCI Lari visited the hospital.
Police said the boy’s father told investigators that he had caned the child on the night of August 18 and again on the morning of August 19.
At about 2pm on Wednesday, the boy’s mother reportedly contacted the father and informed him that their son was seriously unwell.
The father then rushed the child to the hospital.
Further examination by the medical practitioner revealed severe injuries on the boy’s head, back and buttocks.
The boy’s body was moved to Uphome Mortuary pending a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
The father reportedly led police officers to the family’s residence, where the alleged assault took place.
Both parents were subsequently escorted to Lari Police Station for further questioning as detectives investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Police are expected to rely on the postmortem findings and other evidence to determine the cause of death and any criminal responsibility.
