Themba Sonnyboy Sekowe, professionally known as DJ Maphorisa, is preparing to bring his signature Amapiano sounds to Nairobi. The South African producer and DJ will perform as a supporting act at Fally Ipupa's highly anticipated concert. The show is scheduled for 5 September 2026 at Uhuru Gardens.
Sekowe is also known by his other stage names, Madumane and Lawd Porry. He is widely recognised for his role in pushing South African dance music to the global stage. He has helped shape and popularise genres such as Amapiano, Gqom, and Afro-house.

Born on 15 November 1987 in Soshanguve, Pretoria, Sekowe grew up in a musical family. His mother was a gospel singer. He began experimenting with music production during his high school years using a computer given to him by his father.
By the age of 17, Sekowe was performing at local weddings, parties, and community events. He landed an early developmental record deal shortly after. He became officially active in the mainstream music industry around 2008.

Sekowe achieved widespread commercial success after forming the musical group Uhuru. In 2013, the group released the massive hit "Y-Tjukuta". He also co-produced the hit song "Khona" with Mafikizolo and "Ngud'" with Kwesta.
Joining the Star-Studded Nairobi Lineup
The Nairobi concert on 5 September 2026 will feature a diverse mix of African music. Congolese legend Fally Ipupa is the headline act. Ipupa, often called the "Prince of Rhumba", is scheduled to deliver a 2-hour and 40-minute performance. Ipupa's debut solo album, Droit Chemin, sold over 100,000 copies in its first month.
The event will showcase a variety of other major acts. These include South African star Kamo Mphela and the duo Tango Supreme, also known as Nomfundo Khumalo.
The Kenyan boys band Kodong Klan is allocated a 1-hour and 40-minute set. Local DJs, including Joe Mfalme and DJ Ice, will also perform.
Organisers expect a massive turnout at Uhuru Gardens for this musical showcase. The event is supported by several partners, including Villa Rosa Kempinski and Hams Prod.
