Trenches disrupt roadside parking spot for motorists
A popular park-and-chill spot in Tigoni, Limuru, has reportedly become inaccessible to motorists after a resident allegedly dug a trench along the roadside parking area.
In a video seen by the Star, the move followed complaints over littering by revellers who regularly gather at the spot.
The changes have frustrated some motorists, who say the area had previously provided a convenient informal parking space where they could stop and spend time with friends.
One motorist said the space had become part of his routine.
“We were used to coming here to park and chill, and personally, I have been affected by these changes,” he said.
He said motorists could previously park their vehicles along the roadside and use the area to relax before the trench was dug.
“Now there is an exception that makes it impossible to park your car here. You cannot even put your car on the roadside as we used to,” he said.
The motorist said the trench had made it difficult for vehicles to access the areas where people previously parked, leaving motorists to look for alternative spaces.
He said people could previously park on either side of the road, making the location a popular informal meeting point.
According to the motorist, the changes had also affected the social aspect of the area, where people had become accustomed to meeting and spending time.
He questioned why the trench had been dug in a way that left motorists unable to park as they previously did.
The trench was reportedly already in place when the concerns were raised.
The issue has prompted discussion among motorists about access and parking in an area where people had developed informal routines.
Some people commenting on the issue said the space was more than a place to leave vehicles, adding that it had become a familiar spot to meet friends, unwind and “pack and chill”.
Motorists now face finding alternative spaces as they adjust to the changed layout.
