Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba/ FILEThe Ministry of Education has confirmed that schools will reopen for the third term on Monday, August 24, 2026, dismissing reports circulating on social media that the reopening date had been postponed.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, August 19, the ministry said the official term dates communicated earlier remain unchanged and are also available on its website.
“This is also to notify all education stakeholders and the general public that reports circulating on social media regarding the postponement of school opening dates are FALSE and should be completely disregarded,” the ministry said.
The ministry said it had directed Regional Directors of Education, County Directors of Education and Sub-County Directors of Education to ensure compliance with the approved academic calendar.
Term III for pre-primary, primary, junior, senior and secondary schools will run for nine weeks, from August 24 to October 23, 2026.
Academic operations at diploma teacher training colleges will also resume on August 24 and run until November 6, 2026.
The ministry said national assessments and examinations, including KPSEA, KILEA, KJSEA, KPLEA and KCSE, will proceed according to the existing schedule from October 26, 2026.
It also said extracurricular activities and visits to secondary schools will remain banned during Term III.
The ministry urged parents, teachers and learners to rely on official communication from the Ministry of Education and disregard unauthorised online notices.
