Detectives are investigating an incident in which a 30-year-old school night watchman was found dead inside a store at a secondary school in Matuu, Machakos County.
The deceased, identified as Jackson Kioko Nyamai, was reportedly on duty alongside a fellow watchman when he went into the store to rest.
According to police, the body was discovered at about 6 am on Sunday.
Nyamai was found lying on the floor after apparently vomiting, with mucus reportedly oozing from his nostrils.
The scene was documented as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death commenced.
The body was removed and taken to Mbaku Funeral Services, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Meanwhile, police in Migori County arrested two women after a 53-year-old woman died following an alleged assault linked to claims that she was practising witchcraft.
The deceased, identified as Florence Tono, was found lying in her compound in Rongo Sub-County on Sunday with multiple injuries and bleeding heavily.
Police said she was found completely naked and was rushed to Royal Hospital in critical condition, where she died while undergoing treatment.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 9 am when two women reportedly went to Tono’s homestead and confronted her over claims that she was practising witchcraft.
Police said the two women reportedly wrestled Tono to the ground, kicked and assaulted her before leaving the scene, after which she was found critically injured.
Tono’s body was transferred to Rosewood Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The incident comes amid reports of other deaths linked to alleged mob attacks in different parts of the country and campaigns to address the practice.
Police have continued to discourage mob attacks and urged members of the public to surrender suspects to authorities for processing.
Police statistics show that most victims in reported mob-attack cases are men. Police said the reported cases remain under investigation and that those found culpable could face murder charges.
And an eight-year-old boy drowned while swimming with other children at Mwaepe Beach in Msambweni, Kwale County.
The deceased was a Grade Three pupil at Malalani Primary School.
According to police, the incident occurred on August 14, 2026, while the boy was swimming with others at the beach.
Efforts to rescue him were unsuccessful, and police said he later died in the incident.
Police officers from Diani Police Station, accompanied by Scenes of Crime personnel, visited the beach and documented the scene.
The boy’s body was subsequently moved to the Kwale Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending an autopsy.
