Police are investigating the death of a 30-year-old man whose body was found at a quarry site in the Lami Nyeusi area of West Pokot County, police have reported.
Police officers found the body of Kiratany Tingwa, a resident of Masol Location, with what police described as an injury to the throat.
Police said they had identified a person of interest in connection with the death. According to police, the person left the scene shortly after the incident and a national identity card was found there.
Officers documented and photographed the scene as investigations into Tingwa’s death continued, police said.
The body was moved to Kapenguria Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old man died after a fire broke out at his home in Mucagara Village, Thumaita Sub-location, Kirinyaga County, on Sunday morning.
The man, identified as Cyprian Gichovi Muchiri, was found lying on a bed after the two-room timber house was completely consumed by the fire.
According to police, the fire destroyed the entire house and household items inside. Police said Muchiri’s body had been extensively burnt.
Police said Muchiri had a history of asthma. The circumstances surrounding the fire remained under investigation.
The body was removed and taken to Kibugi Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Investigations are ongoing.
Elsewhere, a 57-year-old fisherman drowned after a canoe he was travelling in capsized in the Indian Ocean off Kaswakini Village, Magarini Sub-County, Kilifi County.
The fisherman, identified as Katana Kahaso Karisa, was found dead at the shoreline early Sunday morning after being swept away by strong waves.
According to police, Karisa and a fellow fisherman had gone fishing on Saturday, August 15, and were returning in the evening when their canoe was hit by strong waves and capsized.
One fisherman managed to swim to safety, but Karisa did not make it out of the ocean, police said.
Police visited the scene and found Karisa’s body lying along the shoreline. Officers noted a slight injury on his lip.
Police processed the scene before moving the body to Malindi Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The incident highlights concerns over dangers faced by fishermen operating in the Indian Ocean during rough weather and strong waves.
