Speaking on Saturday during the second day of the DCP tour of Nakuru County, Methu said the former Deputy President had piled pressure on Ruto and pushed him to the edge as opposition leaders seek to unite to deny the President a second term.
“You know this Rigathi Gachagua has cornered William Ruto. He has him in a tight spot,” Methu said.
Ruto and his former deputy went from a close 2022 election alliance to a political split that culminated in Gachagua's impeachment in October 2024.
The two have since become political opponents, with Gachagua positioning himself as an opposition figure and saying he intends to rally Mount Kenya voters to unseat Ruto in the 2027 General Election.
Methu said the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, which the DCP won by a landslide, was the litmus test that confirmed Gachagua as the best-placed leader to take on Ruto at the polls.
Opposition leaders are yet to settle on a single candidate to face Ruto in the 2027 election.
“I'm telling you, the leader who will take William Ruto to Sugoi, is this Rigathi Gachagua,” he said.
The senator said the Ol Kalou victory would serve as a template for the opposition to safeguard its votes in the 2027 election.

DCP on Saturday embarked on the second day of its political mobilisation drive in several parts of Nakuru County as part of the party's grassroots mobilisation programme.
An itinerary released by the party showed that the team led by Gachagua began the day's engagements in Rongai town before proceeding to Molo.
The leaders then moved to Elburgon town and Njoro Posta, with the day's activities culminating in Nakuru town, where the party is scheduled to open a new DCP office.
The office is expected to serve as a base for coordinating the party's activities in the county as DCP seeks to strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.
