Kayole Starlets are facing a significant squad reshuffle ahead of the new FKF Women’s Premier League season following the departures of assistant captain Nuru Hadima, Valerian Nabwire Echakut and left back Lavyne Achola.
The changes come after Kayole completed their first season back in the top flight in sixth place, with 25 points from 20 matches. The newly promoted side recorded nine wins, one draw and 10 defeats, scoring 26 goals and conceding 31.
Hadima's departure represents the biggest leadership loss, with the midfielder leaving after the expiry of her contract. The 2024/25 Midfielder of the Season made 46 appearances for Kayole, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists during her time at the club.
Kayole thanked the former assistant captain for her leadership, commitment and contribution both on and off the pitch. Her exit leaves the club needing to replace not only her creativity in midfield but also her influence within a squad that was rebuilding after promotion.
Echakut has also left after one-and-a-half seasons following a mutual termination of her contract. The former Mathare United Women attacker is now a free agent and will be looking for a new club after helping Kayole establish themselves in the top tier.
“Thank you all for an incredible experience. It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside such a dedicated team. I'm so proud of what we've accomplished together and wish you all the best,” Echakut said in a farewell message.
She also thanked the technical bench, management, teammates and supporters for their backing during her time at the club. The most significant move, however, is Achola's impending transfer abroad.
The left back left Kenya on Friday morning for Turkey, where she is expected to complete her move to Haymana Spor Women's Football Team in Ankara. Achola was part of the Kayole squad that returned to the Women's Premier League last season and featured prominently in the club's campaign.
The club's official squad list identifies her as one of its defenders. Her move provides another indication of the pathway Kayole is creating for players to pursue opportunities beyond the domestic league. Kayole's previous campaign included several encouraging results, despite their inconsistency. They finished with a positive run-in, beating Zetech Sparks 4-1 in their final league match, with Calta Nasambu scoring twice.
The club will now have to balance those departures with recruitment and the development of its remaining players as preparations for the new season continue. Head coach Mary Adhiambo, who led the side during its return to the top flight, will have the task of rebuilding around a squad that has already demonstrated its ability to compete at the highest domestic level.
