This high-profile encounter at the Stade Vélodrome represents the final dress rehearsal before the domestic campaigns get underway later this month.
Marseille have every reason to approach the fixture with confidence after an impressive pre-season, winning five of their six friendly matches, including a statement 3-1 victory over Spanish opposition Athletic Bilbao in their most recent outing.
Atletico, meanwhile, arrive in rather less convincing shape after consecutive defeats against Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Manchester City. More worryingly for Diego Simeone, his side surrendered leads in both encounters.
Their most memorable modern encounter came in the 2018 Europa League final, when Atletico produced a ruthless performance to sweep Marseille aside 3-0 and lift the trophy.
This time, however, home advantage and Marseille's stronger pre-season rhythm could make for a much tighter contest.

There will be plenty of eyes on Stamford Bridge as Chelsea take on Real Sociedad in a fixture that doubles as the final tune-up before the new Premier League campaign, while also providing a first opportunity for the home crowd to see Xabi Alonso take charge on familiar English soil.
Chelsea return to London after a mixed pre-season tour of Australia and Asia, although their latest results provide plenty of encouragement, with the Blues brushing aside AC Milan 3-0 before being held to an entertaining 3-3 draw by Johor Darul Ta'zim.
Alonso's tactical blueprint is beginning to take shape, with the former midfielder favouring an expansive, possession-heavy approach built from the back. Chelsea's challenge will be turning that territorial control into sustained attacking threat while maintaining the defensive balance required against a disciplined Spanish outfit.
Real Sociedad, meanwhile, arrive looking to sharpen their edge after suffering a 2-0 defeat to FC Köln. As reigning Copa del Rey champions, they possess a dangerous squad led by the influential Mikel Oyarzabal.
Traditionally, Sociedad have been comfortable operating from a compact and disciplined defensive shape, but their ability to contain elite opposition during transitions will be tested by a Chelsea side increasingly comfortable moving the ball at pace. The statistical lean may favour Chelsea, but this is still a pre-season fixture where experimentation and substitutions can distort the picture. Even so, Alonso's side should have enough quality and momentum to sign off their preparations with another positive result.

AC Milan vs Manchester United

The headline act in Poland is not merely on the pitch but in the dugouts, where AC Milan's Ruben Amorim comes face-to-face with Manchester United, the club he departed only months ago.
The Portuguese coach now begins another chapter with the Rossoneri, while Michael Carrick's Manchester United arrive with growing confidence after an encouraging pre-season campaign that has gathered momentum with every outing.
United bounced back from an early stumble to hammer Rosenborg 5-0, edge Atletico Madrid 2-1 and then hold Paris Saint-Germain to a hard-fought 1-1 draw. The midfield has also received fresh impetus, with summer arrivals Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans settling quickly into Carrick's structure.
Milan, by contrast, are still searching for their rhythm under Amorim. The Rossoneri have yet to win an international friendly, drawing 2-2 with Celtic and 1-1 with Inter before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Amorim's influence is already evident, with Milan transitioning towards a more fluid and structurally flexible side, although the new system still needs time to become second nature.
Amorim knows the United squad intimately, meaning Milan should have a clear understanding of where to disrupt their build-up and how to make life uncomfortable for the Red Devils.
United, however, possess the greater pre-season momentum and should have enough attacking quality to trouble Milan's defence.
