Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen during the 61st graduation ceremony of Scott Christian University in Machakos on August 14, 2026/MINA The government has expanded investment in education, technical training and higher education financing as part of its development agenda, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has said.
Murkomen said the government had recruited more than 100,000 teachers, delivered 23,000 classrooms and was constructing 1,600 laboratories to support the implementation of the Competency-Based Education system.
He said Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) enrolment has more than doubled to 718,000, giving hundreds of thousands of young Kenyans access to practical and industry-relevant skills.
The CS said the government was also reforming higher education financing to ensure that no Kenyan child is denied an opportunity to pursue education because of their background.
“As a Ministry, we are working with universities and colleges to strengthen awareness, prevention and response to the challenges of security, GBV, drug and substance abuse, among others,” Murkomen said.
He spoke in Machakos where he represented Deputy President Kithure Kindiki at the 61st graduation ceremony of Scott Christian University.
Murkomen challenged the graduates to use the knowledge and skills acquired to drive innovation, develop practical solutions and create value in society.
He commended the university’s leadership, faculty and staff for their role in preparing young Kenyans for the future.
“Congratulations once again to the Scott Christian University Class of 2026,” he said.
The CS said the government would continue supporting education and skills development as key pillars in building a productive workforce and accelerating Kenya’s economic transformation.
