Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo/ FILESuba North MP Millie Odhiambo has declared that she will seek the presidency in 2032.
Odhiambo made the declaration in Parliament while responding to remarks by another lawmaker.
She told the House that while other politicians were competing for the presidency in the immediate election cycle, she had her sights set on 2032.
“You know that I will be the President in 2032. I leave the men to fight over now. That is their problem. But in 2032, I’m the President,” she said.
Her declaration comes as several politicians have publicly outlined their intentions to contest the presidency in 2027.
President William Ruto is seeking a second term. In an Infotrak survey conducted between June 22 and 26, he led potential presidential contenders with 32 per cent support nationally.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka followed with 13 per cent, while former Interior Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna each had 12 per cent.
Several opposition figures have also declared or publicly confirmed their intention to seek the presidency.
Kalonzo has been endorsed by his Wiper Patriotic Front party as its 2027 presidential candidate. He launched his presidential campaign platform in June while insisting that the opposition should remain united in its effort to challenge Ruto.
Matiang’i has been endorsed as Jubilee’s presidential candidate, while People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua reaffirmed her 2027 presidential bid in January. Karua had initially declared her candidacy in September 2025, saying she would serve one term if elected.
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has also declared his intention to contest the presidency in 2027. He has positioned his campaign around governance, accountability and institutional reform.
Other politicians who have declared or indicated plans to contest include former Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, lawyer and activist Boniface Mwangi, and businessman and politician Jimmy Wanjigi. Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency Eliud Owalo has also declared his intention to run.
The United Alternative Government, bringing together leaders including Kalonzo, Karua, Matiang’i, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Wamalwa, has not selected its presidential flag bearer.
Karua said in July that no decision had been made on the coalition’s presidential candidate and that the choice would be made through an agreed consultative framework.
Odhiambo has represented the area now known as Suba North in Parliament since 2008, initially as a nominated MP before being elected to represent the constituency.
She has also spoken on governance, women’s rights, children’s rights, political violence and party organisation.
Her declaration comes after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino announced his own long-term presidential ambitions.
Owino has said he intends to contest the Nairobi governorship in 2027, serve one term and then seek the presidency in 2032.
